GEARHART, MCNAIR NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University Lady Colonels, Marla Gearhart and Teresa McNair, have been named to selected 1999-2000 All-Ohio Valley Conference teams.

Gearhart, a 5-9 senior guard from Olive Hill, KY, was named first-team All-OVC after finishing second in the league in scoring this season with her 19.6 per game average. She also hit 42.5 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from three-point range and 81.1 percent of her free throws, while averaging 3.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Gearhart also became the 11th Lady Colonel to score 1,000 points in her Eastern career as she finished with 1,085 points at Eastern.

"Marla was a joy to coach. She loved the game and gave it all she had when she was on the court," said EKU head coach Larry Joe Inman. "She is a winner, both on the court and off. We'll certainly miss her next season."

McNair, a 5-9 freshman forward from Ocala, FL, was named to the All-OVC Freshman Team. She averaged 10.0 points and 4.9 rebounds and led the OVC in steals with 93, just 12 short of former Colonel guard Angie Cox's OVC single season record for steals of 105.

"Let me tell you one thing. Teresa McNair can flat play defense. She was by far the best and most dominant straight-up defensive player on the court this year. She had a tremendous first year and we're looking for bigger and better things from her the next three years," said Inman.

McNair is currently tied for 18th in the nation in steals with her 3.4 per game average.

Eastern closed the 1999-2000 season with a 13-15 overall record and 10-8 mark in OVC regular season play, good enough for a final fifth place finish in the league standings.
