LADY COLONELS HOST MOREHEAD STATE SATURDAY

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will host Morehead State Saturday. Tip off is slated for 2:00 PM, with the men's game to follow.

"When you look at Morehead State, there is not one particular player to look at," said EKU head coach Larry Joe Inman. "They have started 8-10 different kids so they are very difficult to prepare for. Lots of teams, you can key on certain players. But they are pretty balanced. She (MSU head coach Laura Litter) pretty much plays whoever is playing well on that night.

"Whenever you have a Morehead State-Eastern game, you can throw the records out and forget about what's happened in the past. It's always an emotional game and a game that everyone wants to win."

The Lady Colonels are currently 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, coming off a defeat Tuesday at Tennessee-Martin, 83-74. It was the second time UTM (10-4, 5-1 OVC) defeated Eastern this season, marking the Skyhawks first-ever regular season sweep of EKU.

Eastern led most of the first half, but with six minutes remaining on the clock and a 24-18 EKU lead, the Lady Colonels went cold. Tennessee-Martin took advantage of Eastern's lack of scoring in the final minutes of the first stanza, using an 11-4 run to take a 29-18 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Eastern regained the lead in the second half and held a 37-35 lead with 17 minutes remaining. The Lady Colonels then got into foul trouble, and Tennessee-Martin took advantage of Eastern's top scorers not being on the court, as UTM rattled off a 21-9 run over the next seven minutes. With only 10 minutes remaining in the game, Eastern found itself down by 11 points, 57-46. That deficit proved to be too much for the Lady Colonels.

"We made some ill-advised passes at key points in the game," said EKU assistant coach Kent Miller. "We had big possessions where we just threw it away."

Leading the way for Eastern was Sizemore, who ended the night with 21 points, two assists, two blocks, three steals and five rebounds. Sizemore, in only her second season, is averaging 17.7 points per game and is third in the conference in that category.

Sophomore Larrya Wall came in off the bench to add 12 points, two boards, three assists and five steals, while Artist, in her second career started, contributed 10 points and three assists. Senior Cathy Dues took control of rebounding when she was in the game. Dues ended with a game-high nine rebounds and added nine points.
