LADY COLONELS EARN BERTH IN OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT FINAL FOUR

RICHMOND, Ky. -- The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will travel to Nashville, TN, to take part in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Final Four. EKU earned the right to visit Nashville by defeating Southeast Missouri Tuesday in the first round of the OVC Tournament.

The Lady Colonels will take on Middle Tennessee Saturday, which is scheduled to begin at 12 noon CST. The winner of that game will play either Tennessee Tech or Tennessee-Martin on Sunday for the tournament championship and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Tuesday, EKU defeated visiting Southeast Missouri by a score of 92-75. The Lady Colonels shot 50 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range. Senior Franklin, KY native Laphelia Doss led all scorers as she poured in 23 points. Doss also led Eastern in rebounding, recording her eighth double-double of the season, pulling in 10 boards. Earlier this season, Doss became the only player in school history to score 1,000 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds in a career. The senior currently has 1,368 points and 1,021 rebounds during her four-year career at Eastern..

Senior guard Chrissy Roberts contributed 13 points and a game-high nine assists. The Eminence native hit three of five shots from behind the three-point line to pace the Lady Colonels. Roberts is hitting 46.4 percent of her three-point shots this season, which currently ranks her as the fourth most accurate three-point shooter in the nation. Last season, Roberts led the nation in three-point accuracy, connecting on 48.8 percent of those shots. Roberts leads a Lady Colonel team which ranks sixth in the country in three-point accuracy, hitting 39.9 percent as a team.

Freshman Hazard product Charlotte Sizemore added 16 points and, a career-high, eight rebounds.

The Lady Colonels finished the regular season conference schedule with a 15-3 record. Eastern earned a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title, the second consecutive title the Lady Colonels have earned. EKU is currently 20-7 overall.
